Sending Hugs-Water colored Triangles for CAS Challenge #326

Hi! As usual and at the last free moments of my weekend, I decided to jump in on a challenge, CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #326. This week’s challenge is to design a card inspired by this color combo:

I didn’t have the exact colors so I used what I had from my selection of Tombow Dual Brush Pens. I love water coloring with these markers, especially on small panels for card making. They make painting quick and easy without a lot of mixing and supplies, just color onto image and add water with a brush.

First, I cut a piece of Strathmore Cold Press 140lb Watercolor paper to 4 inches by 5.25 inches. I then outlined My Favorite Things Basic Shapes Triangles stencil with a Versamarker Watermark pen. Next, I heat embossed the outlines with gold detail embossing powder. I chose Tombow Dual Brush Pens 933 (orange color), 346 (green color), and 665 (purple color) to fill in the triangles. I also chose a random cool gray color to wash between the triangles. I regretted adding the gray because, I thought it made the panel look “stained”.

TIP: Trace and heat emboss in sections. Be sure to apply an anti-static powder before each trace and embossing.

Pushing on I added the HUGS die cut from the MFT Words for Friends die-namics. The ‘Sending You” sentiment is from Hero Arts, Prayers, Stamp-n-Cut.

Tip: I added a little white gel pen around the letters that are on top of colored triangles to help them stand out.

I cut a piece of adhesive-backed foam slightly smaller than my panel and adhered it to the panel. Water coloring tends to warp the paper and the foam allows it lay flat on my black A2 card base.

Well, that’s it for today. Hopefully, I will be able to post videos soon so that you can see exactly what I’m doing. Until then, if you have any questions, feel free to hit me up in the comment section below.

Happy Crafting Y’all, Erika
